The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was convicted of planning a military coup in September and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments were revealed.
