Larian Studios Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The anticipation around the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
